A lot of small business owners need to wear nice suits to meet with clients.
It seems necessary and ordinary to spend such money on clothes to conduct business. Accordingly, can we deduct it as uniform expense?
The answer to the above situation, however, is NO!
IRS disallows it when the suits can be suitable for everyday wear. They use the word of “can be” meaning that you still can’t deduct it even though the suits are exclusively used for business.
How can clothes be deducted?
There are certain ways to deal with it.
Clothes for safety and protective purpose can be tax deductible.
Also, clothes with the company’s logo printed can be defined as uniform or marketing expenses.
