If you are considering to hire, you may want to hire someone from a targeted group, defined under US Department of Labor, to get the credit up to 40% of the first $6,000 wages paid. The new hire from the targeted group can be part-time or full-time employee. The minimum hours for the new hire has to be at least 120 hours in one-year period in order to be eligible for the credit.
Here is the credit calculations:
120 hours to 400 hours in the first year: 25% credit of the first $6,000 wage paid (i.e $1,500 tax credit)
400 hours in the first year: 40% credit of the first $6,000 wage paid (i.e $2,400 tax credit)
